Teach My People to Open Andrews Campus August 12, 2024

Pawleys Island, SC – The Board of Directors of Teach My People announced last week the opening of their Andrews campus on August 12, 2024 at Andrews Elementary. The Andrews campus will open with 20 students: 20 first graders (two first grade classes), and will add a grade every year through grade 5.

In 2022, the Teach My People Andrews Expansion Committee was formed with a representative from past and present Andrews residents, Joe Lambert of Assembly of God, Teach My People Board and staff of Teach My People. The committee’s goals were to find a location, organize the operations of the new campus, find a local campus director and teachers, and raise the funds to support the first two years of operations in Andrews. The Andrews Campus The Georgetown County School District is in support of Teach My People to open its campus in Andrews Elementary since that school’s population is underserved by after-school programs.

Teach My People will recruit their after-school enrollment from Andrews and use two classrooms on-site. Year two, Teach My People will use four classrooms. “Principal Watford has been so welcoming and gracious –she is very excited about us being on campus,” said Ginger Beasley,

Program Director. “Andrews Elementary will provide the desks, tables, and chairs that we need for each room. They are also providing access and use of the gym, computer lab and cafeteria. We will provide the classroom supplies, meals, etc.” The Program and Curriculum The Andrews campus program will mirror the Pawleys Island and Georgetown Teach my People campus’ programming on a daily basis – it is an extension of school and is aligned with school standards. Each after-school session starts with a snack and playtime. An hour to 75 minutes is spent on homework and engaging activities. Each student is served a hot dinner before the close of the program.

The Funding The Andrews Expansion Committee’s fundraising goal was to raise 2 years of funding ($280,000). The After-School program costs approximately $3,500 per student and the Summer Program costs $1,000 per student for a total of $4,500 per student for the whole year. Teach My People programs are at no cost to the families they serve. We are thankful for the generous donations from the Parsons Family Foundation, Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation, the Tamsberg Family Foundation and the Andrews Community.

Teach My People will host a Grand Opening for the Andrews Community at Andrews Elementary along with the Teach My People Andrews families and students on August 15th.
